Margaritaville at Sea Islander's inaugural voyage will take place on June 14, 2024. The sailing will consist of a four-night itinerary from Tampa featuring a stop in Cozumel and two sea days. The main venue for little cruisers will be the Caribbean Amphibian Splash and Slide pool. Located on the top deck, the area will feature an elevated play space, water slide and splash-and-spray zone designed like a lily pad. Getting from one end of the ship to another can also be confusing, particularly on the upper decks, where there is no real through access without taking various staircases. We also found odd areas of dead space, particularly the Hangout on Deck 14, which seemed like a sports bar with no bartenders or guests.

One way you can tell that Margaritaville at Sea Paradise is not a new ship is by its deck plan and layout. Some of the areas of the ship, such as the Port of Indecision buffet, show their age by being more cramped than what you'd expect on newer vessels. It was so hard to get a seat here that people resorted to carrying food all over the ship, leaving dirty dishes in lounges far away from the restaurant. We were surprised to learn on our 2022 sailing that the Margaritaville at Sea appeal goes far beyond Parrotheads, as Jimmy Buffett's fans are called. Nearly 60% of the passengers on a typical Margaritaville at Sea sailing are taking their first cruise ever, we were told, and the vast majority of them have only a passing knowledge of Buffett.

I was excited to see what new amenities and experiences had been improved upon since my last voyage. If you're a cruise newbie, don't worry -- the majority of passengers on the ship, often up to 60%, are people who have never sailed before. Low fares and the short time commitment draws people who can drive easily to West Palm Beach, both from South Florida and around the state. Unlike most cruise lines, Margaritaville at Sea allows its passengers to get off the ship in the Bahamas and stay at an all-inclusive resort on Grand Bahama Island.

On my first cruise with Margaritaville, some aspects of the stateroom could have used a refresh.

In 2023, Paradise went to drydock and received a multi-million dollar renovation. The excitement for this cruise line has seemed to have grown since its start in 2022, as the first voyage after its dry dock experienced a sold-out success. On these two-day sailings, the ship draws a diverse passenger base that goes far beyond Jimmy Buffett fans, reaching all ages and demographics. The ship did not have any LGBTQ or solo meetups, but there is a daily meeting for Friends of Bill W.

As with any low fares, there is always a caveat -- and while Margaritaville at Sea fare may seem inexpensive at first, there are some not-so-obvious costs. I can confidently say that the cruise was a good experience that improved upon my last. Here, qualified youth counselors entertain kids with activities like games, arts, and crafts, shows, tours, and more. During my two nights onboard, I was impressed to see the counselors leading groups of fun-having children around the ship many times. Passengers can catch two sailaway parties with music on both days of the 2-night voyage.
You can choose from two or four days at the partner resorts, either the Viva Wyndham or Grand Lucayan. One thing we found extremely appealing, especially for new cruisers, is that Margaritaville at Sea Paradise has no real dress code. It's fun to watch people feeling their own 'fits -- some people dressed to impress for the club, while others kept it chill.
The ship’s experience will offer the fun, escapism and state of mind synonymous with our iconic lifestyle. The ship will call in three destinations -- Key West, Progreso and Cozumel. The ship's four-night itineraries will only call in Cozumel with two days at sea. The five-night sailings will feature two ports of call, with options including Key West and Progreso, Key West and Cozumel or Progreso and Cozumel.
